Open Burning

Open burning is discouraged but may be allowed under a fairly narrow set of circumstances. The Bay Area Quality Management District and CAL Fire have their separate and distinct set of rules that are imposed and must be followed. Even when you have followed all procedures and you are permitted to burn, you must use common sense and consider all factors when making the final decisions with respect to burning safely. Follow the procedures outlined summarized below:

  1. Familiarize yourself with Regulation 5 of the BAAQMD at http://www.baaqmd.gov/rules-and-compliance/current-rules
  2. Check the BAAQMD website to see if it is a possible burn day http://baaqmd.gov
  3. Fill out Application/Notification Form.
  4. Submit, pay fee, and receive written approval.
  5. Notify Spring Valley Fire Dept and call CalFire Morgan Hill non-emergency number to notify them and when you will be burning to help prevent false alarms.
