ABOUT US
When calling in an emergency, remain calm. Clearly state the nature and location of the emergency. When stating the location be as accurate as possible, giving address, and cross street when possible. Resident name may also help confirm the location. When an address or residence is not involved give approximate mileage and any relevant landmarks. When calling from a cell phone, inform the 911 operator that you are calling from the Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Departments response area. Stay on the phone with the 911 operator until they say it is OK to end the call and hang up.

The Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department was formed 30 years ago. The SVVFD is the premier volunteer fire department in the greater south bay area. That success is the result of the collaboration and efforts of many people.

More than six years ago the department was reorganized and revitalized after a call for help from the SVVFD and its’Äô founding family, the Patricks. A debt of gratitude is owed for the dedication of the Patrick family and all of those early volunteers and board members.

The current structure and function of the SVVFD is impressive. The SVVFD Board of Directors holds regular elections. Elected Board members and the Chief are elected by response area residents. The Board and the Chief serve the community and work diligently to insure exceptional service and function. This service is appreciated.

The Chief has an appointed hierarchy of personnel to insure orderly function and command during emergency response situations as well as the everyday department activities. This command staff is experienced, well trained, and respected by the professional fire fighting and emergency organizations we routinely work with. Many of our volunteers have more experience than the paid fire fighters they work side by side with.

The behind the scenes work is impressive. There are regular fire fighter trainings on the second and fourth Wednesdays. There is the work that goes into organizing the training sessions. There are support staff that manage our complex communication infrastructure and help support the departments rest, nutrition, hydration, and general rehab needs during responses. There are volunteers that service our equipment.

Success has been a byproduct of all this dedicated effort.

There are legions of folks that donate time, money, expertise, equipment and supplies. The SVVFD was organized to serve this community. This community has also served the department. It continues to be my pleasure to observe, support, and work with this fine organization.
